LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Hindu Temple of Las Vegas celebrated its tenth Dussehra Mela, which attracted more than 1000 people, an attendance which surpassed all the previous years.
The highlight at the event was the first-ever organized Ramlila act by the Hindu Temple youth group.
Ayesha Sanwal, Praveen Saran, Ishan Saran, and Shivam Saran played the lead roles of Sita, Ravana, Ram and Laxman, respectively.
In addition to Ramlila, dance performances and a children’s fashion show was organized for ages 3-10.
The temple had food and shopping vendors for adults, and a fire engine, rock wall and bounce house for kids.
In previous years, temple volunteers handled the food stalls, but due to a high volume of people this year, Mint Indian Bistro, India Palace and Urban Turban manned the food stalls.
Rani Foods and India Market sponsored big raffle prizes. There were huge fireworks organized after the burning of Ravana, which were enjoyed not only by the mela attendees but by the people from the temple neighborhood as well.
