MUMBAI — With the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance getting a majority in the Lok Sabha 2014 elections, Bollywood celebrities like Rajinikanth, Shekhar Kapur and Shah Rukh Khan welcomed Narendra Modi with the hope for a “new India, opportunity and future.”

South superstar Rajinikanth, who met Modi in Chennai when the latter was touring Tamil Nadu in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, congratulated the future prime minister of the country.

“Hearty congratulations, dear Narendra Modi-ji on your historic win. Best wishes,” Rajinikanth posted on Twitter.

Tamil superstar Dhanush, son-in-law of Rajinikanth, tweeted, “Change is here. Magic has happened.”

Superstar Khan said the elections proved that change is the only constant.

“What a solid mandate given by the people. It proves again that the only constant is change. Now to move forward with strong and active faith, India,” Khan tweeted.

Actress Shabana Azmi said she is happy to see that the people of India voted for change.

“What a decisive victory for Modi and the BJP! The people of India have voted for change. Let the new government rule wisely and well,” she said.

Other celebrities including Anupam Kher, Shekhar Kapur, Preity Zinta, Asha Bhosle and Karan Johar, among others, also took to Twitter to congratulate Modi.

“End of era of feudal politics. Dynastic politics. A new India. A new opportunity. A new future. Let it not go to waste. Narendra Modi, congrats,” Kapur tweeted.

Veteran playback singer Bhosle wrote, “Finally a prime minister who speaks Hindi...Jai Hind.”

Director Johar called Modi’s success the “first blockbuster of the year.” “BJP...the first major blockbuster of the year! Huge opening and no sign of a Monday drop,” Johar posted.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, “The wave has hit the shore! A young, sensible and vibrant India gives its verdict! Heartiest congratulations to Narendra Modi and his team.”

Kher, whose actress wife Kirron Kher defeated AAP’s Gul Panag and Congress’' Pawan Kumar Bansal from Chandigarh constituency, tweeted, “Achche din aa gaye (Good days are here). Jai Ho.”

Vivek Oberoi hailed Modi’s vision of a new India. “A new era dawns! People have voted unanimously for Narendra Modi’s vision of a new India. A great victory of the people of India! A victory of hope, progressive thinking and inclusive ideology over the dirty, divisive politics of fear,” he wrote.

Zinta and composer Vishal Dadlani are looking forward to a stable and solid government.

“Heart is beating crazy as I watch election results on TV. Every Indian has spoken and I am happy to see that this will be a stable and solid government,” Zinta posted.

Dadlani tweeted, “So, Modi is clearly the voice of the Indian people. One hopes for good governance, that serves the country. Good luck to him, BJP and us.”

Actress Chitrangada Singh said, “So, today we stand MODI-FIED. Now let’s have it coming. Nation awaits.”
