MUMBAI—Neeraj Pandey’s “Aiyaary” trailer intrigues with the mentor-protégé bond of Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra. The trailer was released on Dec. 19. “Aiyaary” revolves around two strong-minded army officers having completely different views, yet right in their ways.

The trailer showcases the loyal and obedient officer Major Jai Bakshi aka Sidharth Malhotra who idolizes his mentor Colonel Abhay Singh aka Manoj Bajpayee. The interesting turn of events leaves the audience intrigued why the two are pitted against each other. The trailer dwells on the mystery of how the protégé turned against his mentor and also hints at an ongoing scam that risks the reputation of the entire Indian Army.

The power-packed ensemble cast of Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Adil Hussain, Kumud Mishra and Vikram Gokhale with Rakul Preet Singh, Pooja Chopra, also makes for a promise of strong content. Bajpayee is seen as the strict and focused army official who can go to any extent to protect the dignity of the Indian army. Malhotra showcases a drastic change in intentions from an honest and loyal army officer to a rogue.

Kumud Mishra showcases shades of gray along with Adil Hussain. Vikram Gokhale and Anupam Kher are seen in commanding positions, while the character of Naseeruddin Shah piques our interest with his (trailer-) closing statement.

Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey took to Twitter to share the trailer of the film, saying, "Passion, blood, sweat, tears and joy. They all add up to this. Many thanks to my team. Here it is, the Aiyaary Trailer.”

The poster of the film was released on Dec. 16 on the occasion of Vijay Diwas (the day India won against Pakistan in 1971) and depicted the ensemble cast and locations where the film has been shot. The makers had earlier released a sizzle to the film showcasing the behind the scenes of the film, raising the excitement of the audience.

With films like “Baby,” “Naam Shabana” and “Rustom” (both as producer) (besides other hits like “A Wednesday!,” “Special 26” and “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story,”) Pandey has paid tribute to the uninformed and non-uniformed soldiers of our nation. “Aiyaary” will yet again be an ode to army officials.

Neeraj Pandey will return to direction two years after his last directorial “M.S. Dhoni…” that not only won accolades from the audience and critics but also emerged victorious at the box office. Music by Rochak Kohli and Ankit Tiwari and lyrics by Manoj Muntashir will be other credits of this film. Plan C and Jayantilal Gada (Pen) present “Aiyaary,” produced by Shital Bhatia of Friday FilmWorks and Dhaval Jayantilal Gada with Motion Picture Capital.

The film releases on Jan. 26, 2018 and this auspicious day is set to be a landmark one in Hindi cinema. Releasing against “Aiyaary” is “PadMan,” directed by yet another mega-talent, R. Balki. The Twinkle Khanna co-production is a serious yet entertaining biopic about a real-life Indian hero who in his way (of making and selling economic sanitary napkins in backward areas) showcased his missionary patriotism.
