MUMBAI—Bhumi Pednekar’s training as well as preparation are combined in a unique way for her new film.
Her workout regime now includes walking with heavy water-filled buckets on her head under the boiling sun, sweeping and cleaning floors, grinding wheat and walking barefoot in dusty fields among other rigorous household chores that rural women in India do.
All this is to get into the character of Abhishek Chaubey’s untitled next film starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Manoj Bajpayee.
Bhumi Pednekar is a perfectionist when it comes to her craft, and she is now gearing up for one of her most challenging shoots. Always one to pour herself into a character, she has altered her entire workout regime to master the role of a girl living in the rugged Chambal valley in the 1970s.
“Abhishek wants his characters to look like they are from the Chambal of the 70s. and I want to get into the skin of her character,” said the feisty heroine of three consecutive hits in a flop-free career, “Dum Laga Ke Haisha,” “Toiler: Ek Prem Katha” and “Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.”
