MUMBAI—Actor-filmmaker-musician Farhan Akhtar has showed interest in restoring the Nirav Modi-owned Rhythm House for an initiative led by Anand Mahindra for providing a platform to musicians.
Farhan Akhtar, who is also a passionate singer and performer, expressed his interest to join the cause to restore the Enforcement Directorate-seized Rhythm House in Colaba for the interest of musicians via his social media.
Mahindra led an initiative for Mumbai-based influencers to pitch in for restoring the place and develop it into a performance venue for rising musicians. Mahindra had taken to Twitter to propose, “If the ED is going to eventually auction Rhythm House, how about a bunch of us in Mumbai collectively acquiring it, restoring it & turning it into a performance venue for Rising musicians & a hangout for music lovers? Happy to be part of such a band..”
To this, Akhtar replied, “A mission I’ll gladly be part of.. @anandmahindra #rhythmhouse.” Akhtar is currently on a performing spree since the New Year commenced.
Rhythm House was one of the city’s oldest and most prestigious music emporia. It also supplied the list of Top Ten Soundtracks every week to India-West for over two decades. As a shop, it had closed down to the digital invasion of the music scene in February 2016.
