Twinkle Khanna has come a long way from her debut in Bollywood as the bratty Tina Oberoi in the 1995 film "Barsaat" to a celebrated, outspoken author and feminist. The daughter of the first superstar of Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna, and celebrated actress Dimple Kapadia has lived in the shadows of her famous parents. Not many know that Twinkle Khanna was a quiet, nerdy, overweight kid who loved reading and staying behind the scenes. In her short acting career, Twinkle Khanna did a few hit films and, in 2001, decided to bid adieu to her acting career by marrying Akshay Kumar.
A year later, she became a mother and focused on raising her son with the right values and spent most of her time as a dedicated wife and mother. She launched a candle-making business, and later turned into a full-fledged interior designer, opening her own store, "The White Window."
Just when things were getting comfortable and people wrote her off as a star-wife and designer by hobby, Twinkle Khanna surprised the world by doing a witty column, "Mrs. Funnybones," in a leading Indian national daily. Her book with the same title launched in 2015 and went on to become a bestseller. A hilarious book in which Twinkle Khanna makes fun of various people in her life, including herself, uses self-deprecating humor.
Sample this: "Naming me Twinkle was a foolproof way of making sure that I would get teased throughout my life, have immigration officers at various airports stare at my passport and shake with hysterical laughter, and strangers stalk me with WhatsApp messages like, ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, little star, I hope you get hit by a car!"
Her interview on Karan Johar's "Koffee With Karan" is breaking the Internet with her witty answers. Twinkle Khanna has gone on to become the funniest guest on Johar's show.
Within a year of the launch of her first book, Twinkle Khanna penned her second book, "The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad," a collection of four short stories.
A proud hubby, Kumar tweeted about the book:
The book is also garnering praise from critics already.
The Nov. 15 launch was a celebrated affair attended by her mother, husband, son Aarav and many Bollywood celebrities. Her friend and director Johar was the emcee at the launch, and the two had a fun question-and-answer session at the launch.
Proud mom Kapadia was seen with a copy of the book like many others.
Here's wishing this actress-turned-interior-designer-turned-author loads of success!
