Mumbai — It was a roaring preamble to one of the blockbusters we will get to see in the last segment of the year. After a banquet spread of delicacies from all corners of India (and beyond), the media and other guests were ushered into the banquet hall of Hotel Sahara Star Aug. 14 to launch the snazzy first look of Red Chillies Entertainment’s “Happy New Year.”

Director Farah Khan along with the principal cast of the film, Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff, music directors Vishal-Shekhar and writer Mayur Puri, were all present.

The formal section of the evening began with Khan and Irani welcoming all and introducing “Fictitious Group,” who performed to theme music especially made to mark the eve of Independence Day. Vishal and Shekhar also performed on a specially created version of the song “Indiawaale.” This was followed by a fashion show by Manish Malhotra, in which the entire team of the film also walked the ramp. The collection defined the theme and the sentiment of the evening.

The trailer of the film was then unveiled to the audience that comprised of media and fans from across India who had been specially invited.

Said Farah Khan, “This film has all that it takes to make a quintessential Hindi film, but the most important element here is hope. It is hope that turns into belief for anyone who works hard in life to achieve their goals.”

Shah Rukh Khan said, “It is not necessary that if you do not win even after repeatedly trying, that you are a loser. This is what ‘Happy New Year’ is all about. This film is a celebration, and most importantly, it is as happy as the title is.”

The Red Chillies team was present to cheer in full force, and also present were key officials like Ashish Singh and Avtar Panesar from the Yash Raj Films marketing team that is distributing the Diwali 2014 release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Bhushan Kumar and Vinod Bhanushali of T-Series were also spotted.

SRK’s humor was quite in place, as when in answer to a facile media question, he stated, “Actually in this film, we never got the original person we wanted. We went to [composer] Vishal Bhardwaj and he wanted us to take Vishal-Shekhar; Naseeruddin Shah-saab requested us to take his son Vivaan in his place; Bachchan-saab asked if Abhishek Bachchan could do instead; Tiger Shroff asked us if his father Jackie would do in his place, and Prakash Padukone told me that he does not act, so we will have to take Deepika!

“I also went to Aroona Irani first, but had to settle for Boman; and Farah Khan was my second choice after Sajid Khan. In fact I came in only after all the Khans had rejected the film!”

The highlight was when someone asked Abhishek Bachchan if there was any truth in the buzz that he had a dual role. Quipped Bachchan: “I actually played four roles, but then donated two of them to Sonu Sood and Boman. No, I played six roles, and four went to others!” After a pause, he added, “I think I actually was called for eight roles.” Interrupting him, Farah said with mock sternness, “Actually I do not know what he is talking about!”

In short, there was fun and banter unlimited, the trailer was super, and once again, going by the first look, Deepika Padukone is set to overshadow all.
