MUMBAI — “Kareena couldn’t have looked more elegant. She gives the song #MeraNaamMary a touch of her distinctive style and chutzpah” tweeted co-producer and buddy Karan Johar on the release of the first single from the much-awaited film “Brothers.” Sony Music Entertainment recently acquired the music rights of Dharma Productions’ action-drama film “Brothers” and released this single Jul. 9.
Sung by Chinmayee Sripada, composed by Ajay-Atul and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, “Mera Naam Mary” has choreography by Ganesh Acharya and is clearly inspired from Marathi folk music like “Chikni Chameli,” the item song enacted by Katrina Kaif for the hit by the same team — Karan Johar, director Karan Malhotra and the composer-lyricist combo from “Agneepath,” along with Sony Music.
This film is the official remake of the 2011 Hollywood film “Warrior.” Presented by Fox Star Studios in association with Lionsgate, the film releases Aug. 14 and stars Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Jacquelien Fernandez and Shefali Shah.
As for Khan, she is especially gung-ho about this “different” item number that she has done for Johar, who has been an important part of her cinematic journey and a buddy. Like her song “Fevicol” from “Dabangg 2,” this song is set to fire the charts and in fact, rejuvenates Khan as an actor who began with the ‘80s-’90s brigade of heroes and is now serenading Sidharth Malhotra (in this song) and Arjun Kapoor (in her next film with R. Balki).
