Katrina Kaif

MUMBAI—Katrina Kaif told a portal, koimoi.com. that the last 18 months have been rough for her. Kaif has had many flops in a row including “Baar Baar Dekho” and “Fitoor” along with even the decent “Phantom” and the classic “Jagga Jasoos” collapsing.  Another film, “Bang Bang!” (2014) was a loser but hyped as a hit.

In fact, after the 2013 “Dhoom:3,” she has had no hits, just fab performance in “Jagga Jasoos.” But suddenly, Katrina Kaif seems to be all set to rise, almost like a Phoenix, from the ashes of those terrible movies with a few big banner films in her kitty. Kaif is doing two films for YRF and a film with Aanand L. Rai, repeating her old pattern of working with all Khans at one time – though in that case, all the films were from YRF.

With “Tiger Zinda Hai” (with Salman Khan) on Dec. 22, “Thugs Of Hindostan” (with Aamir Khan) next Diwali and Rai’s film (with Shah Rukh Khan) in December 2018, Katrina Kaif has a packed diary and will be reportedly doing a couple of other films as well. The portal even quotes a popular daily’s interview of Kaif, in which she stated, “There wasn’t any sense of planning. These are films that happened organically. There were discussions, and these are wonderful filmmakers, who were doing films I wanted to do. There’s no point in trying to recreate the past or trying to be nostalgic.”

Kaif thinks she is still in the transition period till she finds herself and learns a lot more. “I’m happy in this phase. I’m working hard and understanding the joys of a film set. But I’m still in a phase where there’s a lot of uncertainty,” she was quoted as saying.

She added why she always gets meaty roles in other superstar movies, “You have to have a good role in a film you’re doing. And the film has to interest you. I’m just grateful for the work that I do. Yes, no doubt, I work as hard as anyone possibly can. I don’t classify roles like that. If something interests me, I will do it, regardless of the screen time.”

Kaif also said, “But we are also living life alongside all of this. I go to work, and you need to know how to give your best and come home and disconnect. You can’t base your entire existence on it because it’s not healthy and I have done that for a long time. Then I shifted my focus to my personal life, and now, it’s back to work because of the turn life has taken. You have to know how to balance things. Obviously, work should be done with passion and obsession. But you also need to learn to not get your validity or sense of self just from your work.”

She added that Rai was planning to call his film “Katrina Meri Jaan,” which is probably why people keep asking her if she was playing herself in the film. “But it’s a very different film now since there have been a lot of changes in it.”
