MUMBAI— Debutant writer-director Samir Soni is set to release his mind-bender psychological thriller “My Birthday Song,” which deals with a series of twisted events blurring the fine line between past, present, and future, between what’s real and what may not be.
He said, “As a viewer, we always try to think one step ahead. Audience today has become so smart they always try to second-guess what’s going to happen next, and they are watching and enjoying, but a part of their brain is trying to figure out the next scene. So the challenge here is to stay one step ahead of the audience. “My Birthday Song” was more like creating a puzzle, a riddle that everyone will enjoy.”
Actor-co-producer Sanjay Suri said, “I am extremely excited about our psychological thriller. We wanted to make a film that WE would like to watch, without diluting its core theme, the colloquial language used as we speak in real life, and we have tried to keep it relatable and real in the milieu in which it is set.”
The film features Nora Fatehi and Miss India Australia Zenia Starr in lead roles. Produced by Sanjay Suri & Samir Soni under the banner of Kahwa Entertainment, it is slated to release on Jan. 19.
Salman Khan unveiled the trailer online and has also tweeted about the same. Soni is best known as the actor who made his debut as a hero 20 years ago with Rajkumar Santoshi’s “China Gate.” He married actress-businesswoman Neelam (Kothari) in 2011 and has now ventured into film making.
