MUMBAI—The sequel to the 2017 sleeper success “Hindi Medium,” which starred Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar, is being planned by Dinesh Vijan along with T-Series. It is said that Vijan is keen on casting Sara Ali Khan, daughter of his ex-production partner Saif Ali Khan, as the teenage Pia (the five-year-old girl seen in “Hindi Medium”) who was Khan’s daughter.
The sequel will go forward by a decade and is expected to roll in August. It will be recalled that Sara’s mother Amrita Singh played Pia’s school principal in the original. However, “Hindi Medium 2” will have no reference to the original and will be a fresh take on the Indian education system. Qamar is unlikely to return to do the sequel.
What is more interesting will be to know whether Sara Ali Khan, if she accepts the film, will make her debut here, as buzz is that her debut film “Kedarnath” is stalled. The row between director Abhishek Kapoor and producers KriArj Entertainment has led to an impasse wherein Kapoor can take over the film only if compensates KriArj for the money they have spent on making it until now.
