MUMBAI—Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana say “Namaste,” while Bappi Lahiri’s hit “Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba” from the 1984 “Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki,” written by the late Anjaan, provides the background for the promo of Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2” especially for India.

Distinctive ‘80s music, abundant thrills, spectacular action, cheeky humor and unforgettable characters – that is the quintessential gift package from “Guardians Of The Galaxy.” In a musical coup, disco from India has been now injected into the characters’ visuals.

In the movie, the music left behind on a Walkman is Star Lord aka Peter Quill’s way to stay connected to Earth, home and the mother he lost. His mother had left behind a curated Awesome Mix Vol. 1 mixtape for Quill, which featured prominently in “Guardians Of The Galaxy.” Aptly titled Awesome Mix Vol. 2, this mixtape of retro hits from the same era will be part of “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.”

And keeping in mind the (economic) value of the Indian market, a desi beat has been introduced specially for India. “Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba,” the India Mash- Up, is a tribute to the 1980s music. The song and its foot-tapping groove is representative of the cool quotient of the new film.

Aside from that, Disney India has also released a special message ahead of the Hindi promo unit from the Guardians themselves. Saldana and Bautista say in an exclusive message, “Namaste India, I’m Dave Bautista, and I’m Zoe Saldana and here’s something special from the Guardians of the Galaxy, just for you.”

“The Guardians are a super-cool set of superheroes who believe in having a ball as they save the galaxy,” said Amrita Pandey, Vice-President, Studios, Disney India.

“As music is a dominant aspect of the movie, we thought it would be a great idea to revive a retro hit dance for the Hindi version. After listening to some popular songs from the ‘80s, the team unanimously felt “Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba” echoes the fun spirit associated with the Guardians. The song is about making the best of the moment and enjoying it, just like these superheroes. We hope the mash-up will be enjoyed by existing and innumerable new fans in India,”

This set of Marvel’s superheroes is back with its second installment, “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2,” on May 5. Given the wide affinity for the Guardians, the much-awaited film will be released in English as well as in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu across India.
