Freida Pinto, last seen on Showtime’s political drama, “Guerilla,” is revving up for another run on TV.
The Indian actress will star on Season 3 of Hulu’s provocative drama series, “The Path,” which will return Jan. 17.
The 33-year-old actress has signed on for a key series regular role opposite Aaron Paul on the drama series, created by Jessica Goldberg.
Pinto will play Vera, a sleek new publicist for the Meyerist movement, who forges a personal connection with Eddie (Paul), but may have her own secret agenda.
“The Path” follows a family at the center of a controversial cult movement as they struggle with relationships, faith and power. Each episode takes an in-depth look at the gravitational pull of belief and what it means to choose between the life we live and the life we want. The series blends elements of mystery-thriller, romance and the supernatural.
At the heart of the Hulu original is a family dealing with broken relationships and crises of faith.
“So damn proud to be a part of this show and work these incredible people,” Pinto wrote on Instagram alongside tagging the show’s team. “Can’t wait for you to see what we have been doing. We are not a cult.”
Pinto told the Entertainment Weekly that she found Seasons 1 and 2 “fascinating,” and noticed that the show is really an “exposition on gender dynamics within a cult, or within any kind of system, like a workplace or church.”
Describing her character, Pinto said that “Vera is a main linchpin in Season 3. She is not a Meyerist, but she’s helping the movement grow. But she has her own agenda.”
She also told the publication that there’ll be a lot of “romantic connections” with Paul but that it’s a complex relationship.
“There’s a lot that is going to get revealed in time as the episodes progress that is going to shake people,” she was quoted as saying.
Pinto will also be seen in the Andy Serkis-directed “Jungle Book,” set for release in 2018.
