Shivangi Maini, an Indian American from Queens, New York, was crowned ‘Miss India New York 2017’ at the 36th edition of the pageant, which was held Dec. 3 in Long Island, New York.
Renuka Joseph from Long Island, was declared the first runner-up while the second runner-up was Inpreet Rattu of Suffolk County.
Hosted by Panache Entertainment in association with IFC, the evening also saw Vinika Shikapuri from Melville, Long Island, and Talath Quadri, also from Long Island, claim the titles of ‘Miss Teen India New York’ and ‘Mrs. India USA New York,’ respectively. Shikapuri, according to a press release, also won the talent round by playing a violin to the Indian national anthem, and performing to the Bollywood chartbuster, “Aisa Jadoo Dala Re.”
In the teen category, which is in its tenth year, Simran Kohli from Hicksville, Long Island, was the first runner-up, while Priya Aguilar Bhanot of New Hyde Park, finished in third place.
First runner-up of the fourth ‘Mrs. India USA New York’ was Devinder “Devin” and the second runner-up was Gurpreet Kaur.
In addition to these titles, there were multiple subtitle winners in each category, including ‘Beautiful Smile,’ ‘Most Photogenic’ and ‘Best Model.’
The winners of the pageant, which is known for providing a platform to Bollywood actresses like Richa Sharma Dutt and Aarti Chhabria, were picked after they competed in several segments, including ethnic wear, evening wear, talent, and question and answer.
The title holders will go on to represent the state of New York at the national ‘Miss, Teen, Mrs. India USA’ pageants to be held Dec. 17 at the Royal Alberts Palace in Edison, New Jersey.
