Indian American Hollywood executive Sanjay Shah has just landed a plum assignment.
The “Fresh Off the Boat” co-executive producer will be teaming up with “Portlandia” and “Baskets” co-creator, executive producer and director Jonathan Krisel to write a single-camera comedy for Fox.
Deadline reports that Fox has given a script commitment with significant penalty to “Model Minorities,” a stereotype-busting comedy that follows a highly educated but struggling Indian American who moves in with his uneducated, but rich, immigrant cousin.
Shah will executive produce with the husband-and-wife duo Krisel and Danica Radovanov. 20th Century Fox TV, where Shah is under an overall deal, is the studio, adds the Deadline report.
Shah, who began his career as a standup comic, got his big break when he wrote the animated series, “King of the Hill,” for 20th Century Fox TV and was a co-executive producer for their series, “Enlisted,” before joining ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” as a co-executive producer and a writer. Previously, he was associated with NBC’s White House comedy, “1600 Penn,” as a supervising producer.
As a writer, his credits also include ABC’s “Cougar Town.” Shah, who writes for Vice.com, also served as a consultant on Comedy Central’s “South Park.”
