MUMBAI—Sony Entertainment Television’s magnum opus show “Porus” is going to entertain the audiences with a new twist when veteran actress Aruna Irani will enter the show. The versatile actress who was as good at comedy as well as almost every kind of lead or supporting role in films as well as on television will play the character of an oracle priestess.

Oracles in Ancient Greece were usually priests who acted as an inspired medium between men and gods to provide advice and make predictions. The priestess will become a constant advisor and philosopher for Alexander in the upcoming episodes. Alexander will have to go through some tests given by the priestess to go back to Macedonia.

After acting in more than 300 films and a number of television shows, Irani said, “I am returning to television after about two years. They have offered me this cameo. I was excited with the way he narrated the character to me and immediately agreed to do it. My character would have a mystic personality with deep wisdom. The ambiguity of the character would also be visible in my appearance and demeanor. My look is also completely different.”

The veteran actress has also largely stayed away from films, having last done the Marathi film “Mitwaa” in 2015.
