MUMBAI— Putting to rest all the recent rumors, Sony Entertainment Television and Kapil Sharma have renewed their partnership. The contracted has been extended for a year. This show “continues to reinvent and maintain itself as the benchmark in comedy entertainment,” says their press release!

Danish Khan, EVP, and Head at Sony Entertainment Television said, “'The Kapil Sharma Show' bring smiles to millions of viewer every weekend nights across the globe. Kapil is an extraordinary talent, and we are delighted to have further cemented our relationship with the extension of this contract. We are confident that the show and its talented cast will continue to enthrall the audiences across the globe.”

Sharma added, “I am deeply touched by the warmth and love the audience has showered on us over the years. It’s their belief and undying devotion that encourages us to continue to reinvent ourselves and bring smiles to every household week on week. I am grateful to Sony Entertainment Channel for believing in me and our show and supporting us in creating and bringing unlimited entertainment to every household every weekend.”

Much drama has happened in the last few months after the exodus of key team members and Sharma’s and the channel’s attempt to reinstate them and later come up with substitutes. As of now, Bharti Singh and comic Raaj Shandilya have been added to the show.

While a devious-minded fan speculated that talks of the show’s plunging TRPs (which is true) leading to possible discontinuation must have been shrewd channel strategy to ensure that Sharma accepted the new terms (in the world of TV, that is more than possible!), a far more likely reason for renewal is likely to be the pathetic level and (lack of) popularity of their misguided show “The Drama Company,” which in some ways is worse than even a rival show that was started by another channel when Sharma exited from there.

Whatever the truth, we pray and hope that Sharma’s health, which has been affected since then to the extent of being visible on his countenance, will now spring back to normal. We are indeed happy for him. Whatever the defects in his persona, Sharma, and his humor remain unique.
