As the world prepared to celebrate U.N.-declared Non-Violence Day on Oct. 2, a man armed with assorted rifles shot at crowd of concertgoers from his hotel room in Las Vegas, Nevada. The carnage took life of 58 innocent lives and injured nearly 500 others.

While motives of the shooter are still unknown, the horrendous tragedy will be forever remembered as “pure evil.” Violence is never justified but indiscriminate mass violence is incomprehensible in a civil society.

JAINA, 125,000-plus member organization of Jains in North America, condemns this senseless act with profound sorrow and offers prayers for all who perished and comfort to the souls of those who were injured. JAINA is donating $5,000 to the Las Vegas victims fund and is urging its members to donate blood at their local Red Cross centers.
