Inspired by the “Humans of New York” photo journal series, photographer Kiran Sampat has compiled a photo essay showing ordinary citizens in India whose daily work adds value to society and keeps the country ticking.

The people captured in the photos range from tailors and hairdressers to policewomen and teachers in places like Rajasthan and Wagah Border.

The photos are based on Sampat’s observations during a trip to India.
