Over 300 people filled the Los Angeles Convention Center’s West Hall here Oct. 9 during the peak hours of the ‘South Asian Bridal Expo’.

Hosted by Exotic Events, the 2011 Exotic Bridal Expo featured about numerous vendors who offered a variety of wedding services from clothing to photography and event management to decorations.

“We’re trying to provide a bride and groom with all the options they need to plan a wedding,” Ranish Prakash, who operates Exotic Events with Neelam Prasad, told India-West. “We’re trying to bring out the best vendors. We try to provide (patrons) with big names that…are the best out there.”

The highlight of the expo was an hour-long fashion show and dance program sponsored by Atirma Collections that displayed the elegant designs for prospective brides and grooms.

Split into three segments, the fashion show featured the latest designs for standard Indian formal as well as modern trends in matrimonial attire. Among the types of clothing on display were bridal wear, fusion wear, lehengas, sarees and sherwanis.

Halfway through the fashion show, a trio of dancers from NDM Bollywood Dance Studio staged exhilarating performances to such popular Bollywood songs as “Mauja Hi Mauja” from “Billu Barber” and “Jai Ho” of “Slumdog Millionaire” fame.

A recent trend for Indian American wedding expositions has been to feature a professional dance company, such as acclaimed dancer Nakul Dev Mahajan’s NDM Bollywood Dance Studio, as an entertainment item during the wedding reception.

Among the select vendors present at the expo were Borrow It Bindaas, Frontier, Legacy, Mita Productions, SS Decorations, Unmatched Elegance Photography and Vivah Celebrations.

Exotic Events has presented bridal events such as the 2011 South Asian Exotic Bridal Expo in the San Francisco Bay Area for several years. Prakash said he hopes that Exotic Events will be a mainstay in the Los Angeles area and that last weekend’s expo was the first of many. Planning for the 2012 event is already underway, Prakash informed India-West.
