Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone will not be able to make her Hollywood debut with “Fast and Furious 7,” primarily due to date issues.
There were reports that Padukone had been finalized for Hollywood film “Fast and Furious 7.” The makers needed the actress to allot dates as early as Sept. 10.
However, she is committed to shooting with Shah Rukh Khan for “Happy New Year” and is busy promoting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Ram Leela.”
Padukone’s official spokesperson recently said in a statement, “Deepika was offered a part in the next ‘Fast and Furious’ movie. She is a huge fan of the franchise and it’s disappointing that she won’t be able to do it.
“Unfortunately, the movie goes on the floors immediately, and that left too short a time for her to shift her existing date commitments to the producers of ‘Ram Leela,’ ‘Happy New Year’ and ‘Finding Fanny Fernandes.’”
“I think a lot has been said. I have never been comfortable talking about what doesn’t happen; I would rather focus on what is happening,” Padukone told reporters here Sept. 16.
Reportedly, Padukone had beaten Kangana Ranaut and Chitrangada Singh, who had undertaken screen tests for the role.
In related news, Padukone said she is keen to work with superstar Salman Khan but is waiting for something special to bring them together onscreen.
Padukone had received an acting debut offer from Salman, which happened way before she was chosen by Farah Khan for “Om Shanti Om.” However, she declined it then as she felt she was not ready to face the camera.
“He offered me my first film when I was too young, and I was not ready to be in front of the camera. I will always be grateful to him. Just the fact that he offered me a film was a great thing. It is taking a long time for us to come together onscreen, so I think there is something special waiting for us,” said Padukone.
The actress, who will be seen alongside South Indian superstar Rajnikanth for the first time in “Kochadaiyaan,” says she admires his childlike enthusiasm.
“I worked for three days with him. I took from him his simplicity, humility and childlike attitude on the sets. Despite achieving so much success, he is so excited, enthusiastic and energetic even today. This is something that is inspiring to see,” she said.
A lot of appreciation is coming Padukone’s way with the success of films like “Chennai Express,” “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Race 2,” but the actress feels awkward when people compliment her.
“I feel lucky enough to play special characters with good actors and directors. I feel awkward when people compliment me. I don’t take compliments well; I don’t reciprocate well,” the actress said.
Padukone is happy to be a part of Bhansali’s romantic drama “Ram Leela” opposite Ranveer Singh.
“There are various ways of telling a love story, like he (Bhansali) did with ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Devdas,’ and now he has come up with a new love story, ‘Ram Leela,’ with a new background and new palette. Gujarat is not explored much in films; it is a new, different side of Gujarat,” she said.
“The exciting part is that the film looks fresh and different. It is a risk that we both (Singh and I) have taken. It is a new take on the love story. We are nervous but excited,” she added.
