  • MUMBAI, India

His goodwill in his fraternity was evident with the attendance of his colleagues. Kailash Kher’s fourth album “Rangeele” with his band (called Kailasa) was a singer-studded launch at Mumbai’s Novotel Hotel on December 10.

As the topping on the musical confection, Kailash, the emcee for most of the show too, announced that the album has “ do digghaj” (two giants) – Amitabh Bachchan, who features in the track “Dharti pe jannat” and Kher’s two-year-old son Kabir. The young boy was very much around, happily prancing from person to person, while Bachchan, as is his wont, came in at 7.30 p.m. sharp, listened to the tracks Kher presented, formally released the CDs, and left.

In his presence, Kher presented two tracks — “Saiyyaan,” his hit from a previous album, and “Babaji,” a track from “Rangeele” that he said he was dedicating to the “new grandfather, Shri Amitabh Bachchan.”

Kailash Kher kept making humorous quips, resorting to a stylish English diction and lingo and then stating that he had learnt English that very day. He added that apart from a couple of tracks, the rest of the songs were on love, as per market demands for “yeh sab faltugiri! (all such rubbish) but with a Sufi touch.”

He thanked the almighty for keeping the band (comprising mainly of music producers Paresh and Naresh Kamath) together for seven years and three successful albums and for making him what he was in less than ten years. After Bachchan’s departure, a music video was shown and Kher also performed two more tracks from the album besides his chartbuster “Teri Deewani.”

Anu Malik, Aadesh Shrivastava, Salim Merchant, Raghav Sachar, Meet Brothers., Anupam Kher, Prakash Jha, Manmohan Shetty, Rumi Jaffrey, actress Sonal Sehgal and Kher’s colleagues Sonu Niigaam, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Alka Yagnik, Shaan, Hard Kaur, Akriti Kakar and Mahalakshmi Iyer were present besides comedians Raju Srivastava and Sunil Pal.

The album is marketed by Saregama.
