World-renowned Bangalore-based ace violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam was conferred with the Limca Book of Records Award for the year 2012 in Delhi. The award was presented by sitar legend Pandit Ravi Shankar as Subramaniam was honored for his priceless contribution in the field of music.

Says Subramaniam, “Whatever I am today is all because of my father, my guru, professor V. Lakshminarayan. Whenever I am felicitated with any award for my talent, it is as if the award has been more for my father than me. “

Past recipients of this honor include Asha Bhosle, Yesudas, folk singer Tijan Bai, composer Ilayaraja, Pandit Jasraj and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.

While giving away the award Pandit Ravi Shankar said, “It is the first time in 72 years of my life that I am giving an award to such a versatile talent.”

Not many people also know that Subramaniam is Pandit Ravi Shankar’s brother-in-law.

Kavita Krishnamurthy, Subramaniam’s wife and singer, was also present. Hariharan and Harshdeep performed on the occasion while Durga Jasraj and Anoushka Shankar were also present.
