BAYVP Celebrates India's 63rd Republic Day

BAVP celebrated India’s Republic Day Jan. 29 with the mayor and vice-mayor of Milpitas in attendance along with the membership.

    Bay Area Youth Vaishnav Parivar celebrated India’s Republic Day Jan. 29 at the Shreemaya Krishnadham here, with more than 700 people attending, according to a press release. 

    The flag-hoisting ceremony was conducted by Milpitas Mayor Jose Estevez and Vice-Mayor Pete McHugh along with BAYVP board chairman Prashant Mehta, vice-chairman Subodh Toprani, executive committee president Nitin Parekh, former board president Suresh Gandhi and executive committee members.
     
    A “Kalash” pooja was performed by devotees to mark the fifth anniversary when BAYVP took ownership of the current facility.
     
    The major highlights of the celebration included a Shreemaya Vidya Mandir Kid's Parade, a cultural program, a Fun-N-Fair, and Flavors of India featuring delicacies from different states India.
     
    A trio of musicians comprised of Ustad Surinder Mann, Jeff Whittier and Leslie Schneider performed during the cultural program.
