California State Assembly Members Honor India’s Republic Day

    California state Assemblyman Tony Mendoza and other state assembly members honored India’s Republic Day here Jan. 26 (I-W, Feb. 3) and discussed ACR 85, a measure which observes Jan. 26 as India Republic Day. “Today’s vote acknowledges this important historical event and recognizes the contributions Indo-Americans have made in California,” said Mendoza.

    “ACR 85 reminds us of the foundation of any nation, our state and its people. It allows us to reflect on the many achievements of the large Indo-American population and communities here in California and our country,” he added.

    Indian American leaders who attended the event include: Indian Community of Southern California chairman Dilip Butani; Federation of Indian American Associations of Southern California former presidents and chairpersons Ajoy Dube and Anju Garg; Federation of Indian American Associations of Southern California president Aparna Hande; Federation of Indian American Associations of Los Angeles president Amrit Bandari; Federation of Indian American Associations of Los Angeles former president Mohan Sharma; Rajput Association of America and Federation of Indian American Associations of Southern California trustee Kewal Kanda; Federation of Indian American Associations vice president Ramesh Bhatt and United Federation of Indo-Americans of California founding trustee Harish Dhruv.
