    University of California Prof. Anil K. Chopra has been included in the International Water Power & Dam Construction's list of the “20 most influential people in the industry.”

    According to the announcement, “these people have made the biggest difference to dam engineering over the last ten years.” 
     
    Chopra has Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from UC Berkeley and an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Banaras Hindu University.
     
    The Indian American professor joined UC Berkeley’s civil engineering faculty in 1967, where he has been responsible for the development and teaching of courses in structural engineering, structural dynamics, and earthquake engineering.
    His area of expertise includes structural dynamics and earthquake engineering. An author of over 300 published works, his textbook, “Dynamics of Structures: Theory and Applications to Earthquake Engineering,” has been widely adopted in American colleges, and used worldwide. It has been translated into Japanese, Korean, Persian, Chinese and Greek.
     
    Chopra’s numerous honors include several awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers, Housner Medal from the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, and a Distinguished Teaching Award from UC Berkeley. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1984, and is an honorary member of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering in 2004.
