The American Concrete Institute recently announced that Dr. P. Kumar Mehta, of the University of California at Berkeley, and Dr. V. Mohan Malhotra, scientist emeritus at CNAMET, Department of Natural Resources, Canada, have been selected to receive the ACI Concrete Sustainability Award.
The honor was awarded for “pioneering and continuing efforts to introduce and support the concepts of sustainability within the concrete industry."
Mehta is a professor emeritus in civil and environmental engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. The Indian American is a world expert in the development of "green concrete."
Mehta has an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Delhi, an M.S. in ceramic engineering from North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in material science and engineering from UC Berkeley.
Malhotra received his B.Sc. degree from Delhi University and his B.E. (Civil) from the University of Western Australia, Perth, followed by the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering by the University de Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, Mexico.
