The 2012 Arthur D. Smith Endourology Lectureship has been awarded to Dr. Mihir Mahesh Desai, director of the Center for Advanced Robotics at the University of Southern California Institute of Urology.
Desai was given the award Sept. 6 at the World Congress of Endourology in Istanbul, Turkey. He was selected for his “academic contributions to the field of urology, particularly in advanced laparoscopic urology and the use of robotics in minimally invasive surgeries.”
The Endourological Society presents the award annually. Cook Medical sponsors the competition to honor of the achievements of famed urologist Dr. Arthur D. Smith.
Desai received his M.D. and master of surgery degree from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. He was certified in genitourinary surgery in New Delhi in 1999 and trained in advanced laparoscopic urology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 2000-03.
Desai is ranked among the top academic urologists in the last 10 years based on the h-index and has authored over 100 publications. The Indian American physician is a urology professor at the Keck School of Medicine at USC.
