The music release of “Chashme Baddoor” took place Feb. 19 at the Cinemax Infiniti amidst a recreation of Goa’s beaches in the foyer of the Red Lounge, like hammocks and beach stall-like structures.
The formal event took place in one of the lounges, attended by Vikram Malhotra of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, director David Dhawan, the entire star-cast (except Rishi Kapoor) comprising of Siddharth, Divyendu, Ali Zafar and Tapasee, music directors Sajid-Wajid and lyricists Jalees Sherwani, Neelesh Misra and Kausar Munir. A special guest was Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan, Sajid-Wajid’s father.
The tag-lines “Har ek friend kamina hota hai” was the topic for much discussion as the team ribbed each other about their friendship and ‘kaminapan.’ David stated that he had really had a lot of fun working with everyone in the film. The film, a remake of the 1981 cult film “Chashme Buddoor,” had “its soul intact and the content updated to today’s times,” said Dhawan. “That film was extremely good for its time, and I was thrilled to get the chance to make it.”
He earlier told India-West, “When you are not getting original scripts, you do think of remaking a good story. But generally, the basic thought or soul is retained, and a new screenplay is written, as with “Chashme Baddoor, “ which is essentially about two friends jo thode se kamine hain (who are rogues of sorts!).” He feels that it is very important to take rights today and says that Viacom 18 had already purchased them when they came to him. The director’s earlier films have had traces of many still earlier films in them, like “Aankhen“ of “Do Phool, “ “Haseena Maan Jaayegi“ of “Pyar Kiye Jaa, ““Bol Radha Bol“ of the old “Haseena Maan Jayegi,““Coolie No.1“ of “Gol Maal“ and “Hero No.1“ of “Bawarchi. “
The promos of the film are looking very vibrant and fresh, complete with witty ‘shaayari’ and lines like “If you can’t change the girl, change the girl!” The songs are also very youthful and well-shot in the colorful locations of Goa.
The film is set to release in April.
