“Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns” (Junglee Music)
Music: Sandeep Chowta
Lyrics: Sandeep Nath, Kausar Munir, Amdo K. and Juggi Singh
Listen to the most “thanda” item song in recent times, “Media Se Keh Doon Kya Main” (Paroma Dasgupta). Though some of the lyrics (Sandeep Nath) are inspired, the song is almost instantly forgettable. Those who listen to yet another version of “Jugni” (Jazzy B) will do so, so I will not comment on that one.
I would rather concentrate on Nath’s lyrics in “Bas Chhal Kapat” (Piyush Mishra) and “Kona Kona Dil Ka” (Devaki Pandit), though the compositions, along with the monotonous and flat singing are nothing to write home about before moving on to the stunner in the album.
And that is Sowmya Raoh’s caressing “Idhar Gire Udhar Gire,” a 50s-style club number brilliantly written by Kausar Munir and composed and arranged by Chowta. Though heavily remodeled from the Geeta Dutt numbers of that era — even Raoh sings in that fashion — it zeroes in on your senses and does not let go.
