FREMONT, Calif. — On Nov. 4, during its “Agent Appreciation” event, Air India hosted over 100 travel agents and guests for an evening of cocktails and dinner, which was held at Sakoon restaurant here. The event also doubled up as a celebration of the two-year anniversary of the launch of Air India’s non-stop flights between San Francisco and New Delhi.
“We will complete two years of this service on Dec. 2, 2017,” Neelaj Sharma, district sales manager at Air India, told India-West. “We have been doing very well. The local response has been tremendous. And Air India would like to thank everyone for that.”
Air India, which started this service in 2015 with thrice-weekly flights on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday using three Boeing 777-200 LR aircrafts, increased the frequency to six days a week in 2016 because of the great response and tremendous community support, said Sharma, adding that the airline offers a 3-cabin configuration, first class, business class and economy class.
And travel agents played a significant role in the national carrier’s success, so the evening also saw the ‘Top Producing’ agents being recognized for their service.
The names of the travel agencies and their representatives who were present to accept the honor were: Christine Kao from Maazda Travel; Mylene Tan from Travix; David Chien from GTT International Travel; and Rupesh Velji from SkyBird Travel.
The entertainment quotient for the event was provided by Bollywood playback singer and now a San Francisco Bay Area resident, Sangeeta Kopalkar, who kept the attendees entertained throughout the evening. From golden classics like “Ajeeb Dastan Hai” to recent chartbusters like “Afghan Jalebi” and several Gujarati and Punjabi numbers, Kopalkar kept the night alive, persuading many to take to the dance floor.
The evening concluded with an elaborate and sumptuous Indian dinner, catered by Sakoon. Guests, including many from the Indian American community, also enjoyed an open bar, an array of veg and non-veg snacks and a bevy of other refreshments, such as tea, coffee and soda.
San Francisco is Air India’s fourth destination in the United States after New York, Chicago O’Hare and Newark, where it operates daily non-stop flights.
