The first Johnny Rockets restaurant in India opened at the Select Citywalk shopping center in New Delhi Jan. 28.
The restaurant chain six months earlier signed a franchise agreement with Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Prime Gourmet Pvt. Ltd., a restaurant firm founded by hospitality industry veterans Sachin Goel, Vishal Chaudhry and Gaurav Sharma.
Prime Gourmet will roll out at least 20 more Johnny Rockets in India over the next few years. “With an ever-growing population of over 1.2 billion, second only to China, India provides a huge audience in a rapidly expanding consumer market,” said Johnny Rockets CEO John Fuller.
Items on the menu created specifically for the India palate include an item that combines roasted cumin, mint mayonnaise and spicy tomato chutney on a chili-infused lamb patty.
Other India-specific items include: Masala Fries, Tandoori Spiced Chicken Wrap, Paneer Philly Cheesesteak and Divine Delhi, “the restaurant’s salute to the robust flavors of the region.” A second New Delhi site will open soon in the Ambience Mall in Gurgaon.
