The man accused of killing Indian American engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla and injuring two others including Alok Madasani in a February 2017 incident could make a plea in the coming days.
Adam Purinton, who was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder, as well as federal hate crime charges, stemming from the Feb. 22, 2017, shooting at Austins Bar and Grill in Olathe, Kan., originally pleaded not guilty and waived his hearing in November 2017 (see earlier India-West report here).
Authorities allege that Kuchibhotla and Madasani were targeted because of their ethnicity, race or national origin.
Now the ex-Navy man is scheduled to enter a plea March 6, according to a KSHB.com report.
A plea hearing had been scheduled for May 8, but was canceled, the report said.
The federal charges carry a potential death sentence, but authorities have not yet announced if they will pursue the death penalty. The state charges carry a possible sentence of life in prison.
