Indian American Rep. Ami Bera, D-Calif., Feb. 14 was elected as the ranking member of the Space Subcommittee of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
Bera is serving his third term on the Science, Space and Technology Committee since being elected in 2013 to the 113th Congress.
“As a kid who grew up during the height of the space race dreaming of what lay beyond us, it’s an honor to be selected to serve as the ranking member for the Subcommittee on Space,” Bera said in a statement. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue our nation’s leading tradition of innovation in space for the 115th Congress.”
Bera is the representative of California’s 7th Congressional District, an area including Aerojet Rocketdyne in Rancho Cordova. The state as a whole is home to some of the world’s leaders in the aerospace industry including NASA research facilities across the state.
