Electric Villages

NEW DELHI — Between April 1, 2015, and Nov. 30 of this year, the government was able to electrify 15,183 villages, the Rajya Sabha was informed Dec. 19.

According to Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Raj Kumar Singh as of April 1, 2015, there were 18,452 villages without electricity in India.

"... As on April 1, 2015, there were 18,452 un-electrified villages in the country and as on Nov. 30, 2017, 15,183 villages have been electrified and 1,052 villages have been found uninhabited. All un-electrified villages are targeted for electrification by May 1, 2018," the minister said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
