NEW DELHI — A national-level hockey player was found dead with a gunshot wound in his right temple Dec. 5 in his car near his female friend's residence in south Delhi, police said.
Rizwan Khan, 22, a resident of Subhash Nagar in west Delhi, was a second year Bachelor of Arts student at Jamia Millia Islamia.
He was found dead around 10:00 a.m. by his family inside a car parked in Sarojini Nagar, police said.
Rizwan Khan had left his home with Rs. 2 lakh Dec. 4 afternoon to purchase a motorcycle but did not return until late that night. His mobile phone was also found switched off, Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya told IANS.
His father Sharif Khan said a cousin sister of Rizwan's friend and her father told them by phone that Rizwan had given them his mobile phone and a bag with Rs. 2 lakh at their residence Dec. 4 afternoon and then drove away in his car.
Rizwan's father and other family members arrived at their home in Sarojni Nagar and found his body in the driver’s seat of the car. A country-made pistol was found in his hand.
"Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. A team of forensic experts have collected samples," the officer said.
