Akshay Kumar celebrates his 48th birthday Sept. 9. The star has been in the movies for 25 years now. He has worked his way up, first experimenting with the action genre, then going into drama, before jumping into comedy and then emerging as an all rounder over the years. Along the way Akshay made some awesome pairs with his male co-stars. Akshay has starred in more two-hero films than most other contemporaries, and his jodi with them is a memorable part of his Bollywood journey.

Here's looking at his oldest and best co-stars:

Sunil Shetty

Akshay has done the most number of films with Sunil. They first worked together in "Waqt Hamara Hai" in 1993. They went on to do many dramas together, like "Mohra" and "Dhadkan." They also did duds like "Sapoot" and "Hum Hain Bemisal." Later, they found their comic groove in films like "Hera Pheri" and "Awara Pagal Deewana." They have also starred together in slightly lesser-known films like "Aan - Men At Work" and "Chupke Chupke."

Saif Ali Khan

Akshay and Saif starred in the love story "Yeh Dillagi" together, where they romanced Kajol. Akshay was the good boy while Saif was the wild child in this film. It was refreshing to see . After that Akshay and Saif went on to work in several films together and made a hit pair. In these films Akshay was the serious man while Saif was the brat - "Main Khiladi Tu Anari," and "Tu Chor Main Sipahi." Akshay and Saif also played heroes to Madhuri Dixit at one time in a romantic movie, "Arzoo." Much later, they also went on to do "Tashan."

Ajay Devgn

The two were first seen in "Suhaag" (1994), where Akshay played the jovial guy while Ajay played an intense hero. The movie was a surprise hit. This was Akshay's initial attempt at comedy. Later, the two also did "Khakee" together.
