Mumbai — Classic characters Veeru, Jai and Gabbar from 1975 super-hit film “Sholay” will now entertain kids through a series of animated TV movies.

POGO, Graphic India and Sholay Media and Entertainment have announced that they will bring “Sholay Adventures,” an animated reinvention of the beloved classic, to the small screen.

"The plans for ‘Sholay’ moving forward in this space are immense! Our partnership with Graphic India and Turner has allowed us to re-imagine the origins and characters of ‘Sholay’ in new and exciting ways for animation," said Sascha Sippy, chairperson of Sholay Media and Entertainment.

The new animated look of the iconic movie characters — originally played by Amitabh Bachchan (Jai), Dharmendra (Veeru) and Amjad Khan (Gabbar) — were created by Graphic India’s SVP creative, Jeevan J. Kang, with the script for the animated series penned by acclaimed writer Alok Sharma.

The first movie in the series will premiere on POGO Jan. 26.

"Sholay is beloved by millions of people across the country. We are thrilled to be working with Sholay Media and Entertainment and POGO to take these iconic characters into exciting new stories through animation for the first time," said Sharad Devarajan, Graphic’s co-founder and CEO.
