Many Bollywood stars today strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise and balanced diet. They also inspire their fans to follow suit. A growing number of actors in the industry are turning vegetarian or vegan as part of a major lifestyle change.

The newest to join the list is rumored couple, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, who turned vegetarians recently. While Sidharth became vegetarian around the time he started training for "Brothers," Alia followed soon after. Her father Mahesh Bhatt is also vegetarian.

Alia had been working hard in the gym to get into perfect shape and lose weight, and decided of going off meat during summer as it helped her stay healthy in the hot months. She hopes to continue being a vegetarian, as she is not a huge fan of non-vegetarian food in any case.

Though Shraddha Kapoor hasn't completely converted, she mostly follows a vegan lifestyle, and eats red meat only once in a blue moon.

Don't be fooled by his bulked up body, Bollywood's newest entrant, Tiger Shroff is also a vegetarian.

Aamir Khan turned vegan earlier this year, after learning about the benefits of it from his wife Kiran Rao, who has been vegan for several years now.

Vidya Balan, who was brought up in a Tamil Brahmin family, on the other hand, never took to meat.

Kangana Ranaut was a strict non-vegetarian before she moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. She turned vegetarian once she realized it had positive health effects. She has followed the lifestyle for a long time now. She says, "I have always been slim, but I have been focusing on staying healthy in the last few years. I eat healthy and I am vegetarian."

Despite being from a Punjabi meat-eating family, Kareena Kapoor decided to turn veggie during her relationship with vegetarian boyfriend Shahid Kapoor. She never went back to eating meat after that.

Shahid had converted to vegetarianism after reading a book called "Life Is Fair" by Brian Hines (gifted to him by his father Pankaj Kapoor), who also followed the spiritual organisation Radha Soami Satsang Beas, which was followed by father Pankaj.

Apart from the current crop of actors, older stars who have been vegetarian for a long time include Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha.
