LONG BEACH, Calif. — Forty-three energetic dance teams comprising roughly 365 talented performers battled in various categories at the Neema Sari Palace’s 29th Annual Raas, Garba, Folk and Film Dance Competition at the Jordan High School auditorium here April 16, presented by Tisha Entertainment Inc. and the Shah Foundation in association with Kola Hotel Group Inc.

Rashmi Shah of Shah Foundation Inc. kicked off the event by participating in a diya-lighting ceremony. The event, which was put together by Bharat and Daksha Amin, and coordinated by Purvi Patel, judged contestants in categories such as Tiny-Tots, Children’s Group, Junior, Senior and Adult. The performances were further divided by Solo, Group, Folk, and Film Dances.

More than nine different groups such as Adaa Dance Academy, RIPA - Revolution Institute of Performing Arts, Colors of Rhythms by Deepa Patel, Bollywood Rhythms and Let’s Dance Academy showed off their dance moves at the popular competition.

The high-energy dance extravaganza was dominated by Adaa Dance Academy, which presented 15 items in solo and group performances, winning as many as seven prizes. With five top prizes under their belt for their electrifying performances, RIPA wasn’t far behind.

The Adaa junior group team impressed the audiences at the sold-out event by their Radha Krishna performances while Prance and Dance wowed them by their garba items. Vaishali Surve of Bollywood Rhythms floored the audiences through her traditional Marathi folk dance Lavani as did Colors of Rhythms during their folk and film group dances.

The trophies and awards were distributed by Artesia city councilman Taj Ali while the judges’ panel included Hiral Joshi, Rupa Shah, Jasu Patel, Minu Singh and Varsha Parekh. The founder of the annual event, Babubhai Patel, thanked the participants, parents, sponsors and donors for their enthusiasm.

Junior Duets Film — Winner: RIPA; Runner-up: Ace Montessori.

Junior Group Film — Winner: RIPA; Runner-up: Adaa Dance Academy.

Junior Folk Dance — Winner: Prance & Dance.

Senior Duets Film — Winner: Adaa Dance Academy.

Adult Film Dance — Winner: RIPA; Runner-up: Adaa Dance Academy.

Adult Folk Dance — Winner: Bollywood Rhythm; Runner-up: Prance & Dance.
