British Indian award-winning actor Dev Patel has been cast to star in a new project led by British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom.
Patel, a Bafta Award winner and an Academy Award nominee, is slated to star in Winterbottom’s “The Wedding Guest.”
The film — to be produced by Winterbottom’s Revolution Films along with the Deepak Nayar-cofounded London- and Los Angeles-based Riverstone Pictures — is largely set in India and will tell the story of the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
The filmmaker has met actors in Mumbai and is currently scouting locations, but has not yet revealed plot details, according to a Variety report.
Winterbottom’s regular producing partner Melissa Parmenter will serve as producer alongside Nayar. Principal photography is expected to start early 2018, the report added.
Patel debuted in 2008’s “Slumdog Millionaire” and has since appeared in several India-set movies including “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “The Man Who Knew Infinity,” “Lion” and “Hotel Mumbai.”
His performance in “Lion” earned him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor in 2017.
