San Leandro, Calif. — An Indian American actor and producer has reportedly agreed to bring his Web series “Keeping Up with the Guptas” to 20th Century Fox.
“Originally I was supposed to go in almost just to see if they had any other lower-level writing positions on different shows,” UCLA alum Sunny Tripathy told the university’s Daily Bruin newspaper June 30. “Through discussion of my family and some of the stories that I was telling them about my family, they actually ended up deciding they wanted to do a TV show deal with me.”
Tripathy has been entertaining audiences since he was young, and while still a teenager worked as a model and standup comic, reportedly winning “Last Teen Comic Standing” at the age of 17. He’s produced commercials and short films, and even excelled in the Mr. India Globe pageant.
In 2010, he launched a Web comedy called “Keeping Up with the Guptas,” which depicted scenes from the life of a typical upper-middle-class Indian American family.
According to the Daily Bruin, 20th Century Fox agreed to take a look at the show. Its title and other details are still confidential, but Tripathy is reportedly at work writing a pilot script, said the paper.
