Pulling off a rare feat, the Marathi film “Lapachhapi” has become the first Marathi and Indian horror film to be selected in the official lineup of the Brooklyn Film Festival; The International Horror Hotel Festival in Hudson, Ohio; and the Madrid International Film Festival.
The new age horror film is produced by Jitendra Patil of Midas Touch Movies with journalist-turned-filmmaker Ramachandran Srinivasan as an associate producer and directed by Vishal Furia.
“Lapachhapi,” which means hide-and-seek in Marathi, has won five nominations for ‘Best New Director’ (Vishal Furia), ‘Best Actress’ (Pooja Sawant), ‘Best Supporting Actress’ (Usha Naik), ‘Best Editor’ (Dinesh Poojari) and ‘Best Original Score’ (Ranjan Patnaik, Tony Basumatary and Utkarsh Dhotekar) at the Madrid International Film Festival.
The film will have its world premiere at the Brooklyn Film Festival.
The film stars Pooja Sawant of “Make In India” fame, veteran Marathi superstar Usha Naik, and TV heartthrob-turned-film actor Vikram Gaikwad in stellar roles.
“Lapachhapi” has its story by Vishal Furia, screenplay and dialogues by Vishal Kapoor, cinematography by Chandan Kowli, edited by Dinesh Poojari, and executive produced by Deepak Joshi.
The music of the film has been produced by Ranjan Patnaik, Tony Basumatary and Utkarsh Dhotekar with lyrics by Swayeshree.
