MUMBAI — With 14 promising contestants, this season of “Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi” has activities that involve a true test of their physical and mental grit. Having hissing snakes on bodies, dunking heads inside a box full of worms, jumping off from running vehicles, speeding in cars to survive a blast, battling with fire, allowing deadly spiders and reptiles to walk all over their face, picking up slithering snakes using their mouths and walking the tightrope while on heights — these daredevils have done it all!

Making their lives that much more precarious is Arjun Kapoor as the friendly and fearless host. The new season of ZICA from Tata Motors presents “Khatron Ke Khiladi – Kabhi Peeda Kabhi Keeda in Argentina” is set to premiere on Aap Ka Colors Jan. 30. The show was announced at a media meet Jan. 27 at the Villa 69 restobar in Mumbai’s suburb of Juhu.

Raj Nayak, CEO of the channel, stated, “We have kicked off the year on a high with the closure of another successful season of ‘Bigg Boss.’ And now, it’s time for viewers to bear witness to their favorite celebrities facing their fears and performing stunts in the same timeslot on weekends. Making the show’s experience more personal for viewers, we will be launching ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi – The Game,’ which will urge players to overcome their fears and dodge high-speed obstacles, keeping them engaged through levels of adventure-filled game play.”

Giving Argentina the flavor of India, Kapoor will be seen making every member of the show, including the Argentinean crew, dance to desi tunes. A change in the format will see the contestants being split into two teams, turning the competition into an open battlefield from the start. Breaking the pattern from hosts of earlier seasons, Kapoor will indulge in a lot of pranks to trouble the contestants and keep viewers amused.

Manisha Sharma, programming head of Aap Ka Colors, said, “This year we split the contestants into two teams. They not only compete against each other but also play for each other. The most timid ones surprised us with their grit and determination. Arjun surpassed all our expectations not only as an entertainer but also as a motivator at every level of difficulty. It was exciting to see the contestants fight all their fears to come out as strong performers.”

An all-new location like Argentina serves as the perfect setting to up the entertainment quotient. The contestants include Tanishaa Mukerji (who was absent from the meet), Sidharth Shukla, Vivan Bathena, Sana Saeed, real-life couple Jay Bhanushali (also absent) and Mahhi Vij, model Parvathy Omanakuttan, hockey player Yuvraj Walmiki, small screen actors Aishwarya Sakhuja, Tina Dutta and Himanshoo Malhotra, and dance stars Faisal Khan, Mukti Mohan and Raghav Juyal.

Kapoor stated that while he has hosted live events and award shows in the past, the thrilling ride of being a host for a reality show like this was a different ball-game altogether.

During the Q&A session, Kapoor said that he was an entertainer, and the medium did not make any difference.

“We also cannot underestimate television, as we have seen with Amitabh Bachchan-sir and Salman Khan-sir,” he stated. “In fact, if people miss our films in the theaters, they watch them on television.”

He even sang and danced to the specially composed theme song of the show.

Asked whether shooting with her husband was an advantage or otherwise, Vij stated that she did not need to call up India to find out how he was doing, so it was an advantage.

Kapoor, in a great mood, even invited a media person on stage to learn a mock-Salsa, while Sharma stated that he was a better host than everyone expected.

“We were apprehensive about how Arjun would react to our offer. But he accepted it instantly and was a fun and daring host, hanging for hours from a helicopter and seeing the entire Argentina from there,” she said.
