Red Hat Inc. announced that its board of directors has appointed Narendra K. Gupta as chairman of the board. Gupta, who has served on Red Hat’s board of directors since 2005, is a technology industry veteran with more than 40 years’ experience. In 2006, the Indian American entrepreneur co-founded Nexus Venture Partners, a leading venture capital fund, and he currently serves as the firm’s managing director. Gupta co-founded Integrated Systems Inc. in 1980 to develop products for embedded software development. He served as ISI’s president and CEO from its founding until 1994 and as chairman until 2000 when ISI merged with Wind River Systems Inc. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the California Institute of Technology, the advisory board of the Asia Society Northern California, and on the boards of several privately held companies.

Ellie Mae named Dinesh Shahane senior VP of engineering. Prior to joining Ellie Mae, Shahane was the CTO of SAP Ariba. Prior to joining SAP Ariba in 2010, Shahane served as the chief architect at Composite Software Inc., a data virtualization company leading the federated SQL and XQuery engine. He joined Composite from TIBCO, where he architected BusinessWorks, the industry’s leading Business Process Engine and the ActiveMatrix SOA Platform. Shahane graduated from Mumbai University with a degree in computer science.

Dr. John Svogun was named medical director of the Westport Rehabilitation Complex in Westport, Connecticut. Svogun is VP and managing partner of Soundview Medical Associates. A graduate of Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India, Svogun did his residency at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Stamford, Conn.

QPharma has announced the promotion of Badal Shah to the position of managing director of key opinion leader and targeting. Shah established and leads the KOL and thought leader engagement practice at QPharma. A pharmacist and Rutgers University science and business graduate, with a specialization in drug discovery and development, Shah is a member of the advisory board of directors for the American Pharmacy Purchasing Alliance.

Conversica has named Sid J. Reddy chief scientist. Reddy is a distinguished academic, noted technical expert, sought-after speaker and published author in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing and computational linguistics. Reddy comes to Conversica from Microsoft, where he served as Principal Applied Scientist. Prior to Microsoft, Reddy founded an NLP lab at Northwestern University and developed AI solutions at two technology startups and at the Mayo Clinic.

Bugcrowd, a crowdsourced security testing company, named Ashish Gupta its new CEO. Gupta brings nearly 20 years’ experience leading strategy at prominent companies around Silicon Valley. Gupta joins Bugcrowd from Infoblox, where he was chief marketing officer and executive VP. Prior to Infoblox, he held key growth-driving positions in marketing and business development at Actian, Vidyo and Microsoft.

Biogen named Dr. Sanjay Jariwala senior VP of worldwide medical. Jariwala joins Biogen from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. Prior to AstraZeneca, Jariwala worked at Vifor Pharma in Zurich, and prior to that at Aspreva Pharmaceuticals in Vancouver. He has also held roles at GlaxoSmithKline. He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, England.
