LONG ISLAND, New York — Children’s Hope India, an Indian American organization that provides education to underserved children in India, will host its annual CHI Gala Oct. 28 at Pier Sixty in New York. This year’s gala will be a special event as the evening also marks the organization’s 25th anniversary. Leaders from the Indian community will join to celebrate the tremendous strides CHI has made in alleviating poverty and providing opportunity to children in India.
Founded in 1992 by a group of women who wanted to help an orphanage in Mumbai, CHI now runs 22 projects and four schools across India, and has provided over 250,000 children with healthcare, education and vocational training. CHI focuses on the ‘whole child’ and, using a cradle-to-career approach, provides children the skills they need to rise from poverty to prosperity. Since 2015 alone, CHI has allocated over $1.5 million to programs in several cities in India and in the New York metro area, and the organization is expanding access to education to empower children for life in the 21st century.
Over 500 guests from the tri-state area are expected to join the celebrations, which will be emceed by noted broadcaster and philanthropist Tinku Jain.
The evening will include a program to honor Lotus Award recipient Chandrika Tandon and Making a Difference honoree Bob Roth for their dedication to service.
Longtime supporter of CHI and award-winning director Mira Nair will also be in attendance and will introduce cast members from her new musical “Monsoon Wedding,” who will give a sneak-preview performance of the acclaimed production ahead of its debuts in New York and India. Their performance will be presented in conjunction with Payal Kadakia’s Sa Dance Company.
Celebrity chef Gaurav Anand, whose restaurants include New York's Moti Mahal and Bhatti Grill, has lent his culinary talents for the evening and will recreate New York City street cuisine for the cocktail hour, followed by a sit-down dinner featuring an innovative menu.
A live auction will give guests the opportunity to support educational projects for the newly-established Children’s Hope Girls Academy in Bhopal. Sandhya Jain-Patel of Christie’s will conduct the auction and the items on the block include jewelry by Nirav Modi, tickets to India from Air India and a chance to drive a Tesla for the weekend. CHI supporters can also bid on the 501Auction site.
Tickets are $400. For details call 516-581-6542 or 908-403-6942 or visit https://www.childrenshopeindia.org/events/save-the-date-25th-anniversary-gala/
