The Toyota Tundra Super Bowl halftime commercial, “We’re All One Team,” which attempts to show unity between the world’s religions, has upset a section of the Hindus for its failure to include representation of Hinduism.

The car commercial, which was played during the Super Bowl LII football championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Feb. 4, depicts Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and Jewish religious figures.

“How could you possibly showcase ‘We’re All One Team’ by turning your back to 1.1 billion Hindus and thus slighting world’s oldest religion?” asked Hindu activist Rajan Zed Feb. 5.

Zed, who is the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, has urged the president of Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda, board chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada, Magnus Djaba, global president of Saatchi & Saatchi, and filmmaker Ivan Zacharias to immediately issue an official apology for “brushing-off Hinduism in this 60-second spot endeavoring to display fellowship and togetherness.”

It appeared that the forces behind the commercial preferred leaving the seat/seats of Toyota Tundra – with a seating capacity of five-six – empty, rather than filling it with a Hindu religious figure, Zed noted.

Zed further said that it was “shocking for the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful Hindu community, who had made lot of contributions to the society and the world, to receive such signals of exclusion.”
