MUMBAI — At least 90 residents were evacuated safely after a fire broke out on the 33rd floor of the Beaumonte Towers – home to Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone – in the posh Prabhadevi area of Dadar here June 13 afternoon.
Padukone, who lives on the 26th floor, tweeted that she was safe and expressed her prayers for the safety and well-being of the firefighters.
A fire official said nine fire engines were trying to douse the flames leaping from the top floor of the building. A plume of smoke engulfed the area, propelled by a strong sea breeze.
IANS adds that according to BMC Disaster Control, the fire erupted around 2:10 p.m. on the two uppermost 32 and 33 floors of the building.
After nearly three hours, the flames spread to the lower floors causing panic among the flat owners, who include several celebrities from the business and entertainment industries.
More than two dozen fire-fighters, equipped with sophisticated lifts and cranes, have been deployed to fight the blaze.
The cause of the June 13 fire is not immediately known. No injuries have been reported so far.
In December, a massive late-night fire in a restaurant at a Mumbai complex killed 15 people.
